The Scoop on Scholarships

ScholarshipsI have been playing around with Google Hangouts recently and actually used the ‘Hangouts on Air’ to record the videos for the Scratch Programming Class I am teaching, and now I want to use that platform to share with you some of what I have learned about Scholarships.

All three of my children graduated from high school with significant money they had won through a variety of scholarships. None of my children had amazing academic achievements or had built an orphanage in Africa – so what they achieved is something most students can achieve.

But I find many of my students do not actually apply for scholarships as they either don’t know where to find them, or they think they have no chance to win them.

As a result they don’t do the necessary things during all 4 years at high school to position themselves well to win money. The info I will share is useful to know as soon as students get to high school. It is often too late to do what they need to do when they suddenly realize in their senior year how much college costs.

On this Hangout I will cover the following:

  • The role of the parents in the process
  • Where to find scholarships
  • The different types of scholarships
  • How to increase your chances of winning

If you are on Google plus you can attend by viewing it on our Google + page, but you will also be able to view it on our Youtube channel LIVE!! I know you will be able to ask questions if you are watching from Google + and I will try to get it working so you can ask via Comments on Youtube too, but if you already know what you would like answered, you can enter your questions in the sign up form below.

You don’t need to sign up to attend – the sign up just gives me your email so I can send you a reminder closer to the time. You can go directly to either of the 2 links above.

I am not a pro on Google Hangouts yet… so please be patient with me if not everything goes exactly according to plan! It is a cool way to be able to communicate directly with you and I hope what I say will be valuable.

If all goes well, I will come back here afterwards and put in the link to watch the recording.

Edited: Will be re-doing this on Tuesday 5th November 2013 at 8pm ET. All the other info on where to find it is still correct

I’m interested in the info you’re going to share, but I cannot join the hangout at that time. Will it be accessible at a later time like webinars?

    • Yes – it will be posted automatically to our Youtube Channel – and it will remain on the Google + page (the links above will get you there). I will also come back to this post and link to it. All this assumes that it goes off smoothly!
